James Patrick Stuart began his career as an actor after being born on June 16, 1968, in the United States of America. Stuart was born to Chad and Jill Stuart of English descent. Stuart spent a lot of his youth in recording studios as his father was one-half of the 1960s British Invasion combo Chad & Jeremy. He performed in the 1980s television series Galactica 1980 as Doctor Zee under the stage name Patrick Stuart.

James, who aspired to be an actor, played Dr. Zee, Lorne Greene’s Starchild consultant, in his debut part on ABC’s Galactica in 1980 when he was 11 years old. When Chad relocated the family to the little oceanfront town of Laguna Beach, California in 1982, where James would attend high school, his boyhood would momentarily return to normal.

He started studying acting in 1988 at the prestigious Stella Adler Conservatory of Acting in Hollywood, where he studied under Arthur Mendoza and Joanne Linville among actors like Mark Ruffalo and Benicio Del Toro. Stuart had a short cameo as a bellhop in Pretty Woman in 1990, and soon after, the New York serial opera All My Children engaged him to play the underdog Will Cortlandt. In 1992, he departed the soap opera as an Emmy nominee.

Stuart was swiftly chosen by director Ron Maxwell to star with Martin Sheen and Tom Berenger as Col. Porter Alexander, the commander of the Southern Artillery, in the Civil War epic Gettysburg. Soon after, James received the life-changing chance to play Brett, Elaine’s conceited lover who designs furniture and has a soft spot for the song “Desperado,” in a well-liked Seinfeld episode.
