Thandie Newton is a British actress who is 53 years of age as of the year 2025 and she was born 6th November 1972, Westminster, London, England, UK.

She was born in London though she was the daughter of a Zimbabwean and British where her mom was from Zimbabwe and her father was a British. Her mother was a health care worker of the Shona tribe whereas her father was a lab technician.

They lived in Zambia till they experienced political unrest in the area and moved to the UK back. She lives in Cornwall which is in southwest Britain Till she was an eleven-year-old and she got herself into London’s Art Educational School to study modern dance and later she had to stop due to a leg injury.

Thandie Newton started to do auditions for acting and got her first role in John Duigan’s Flirting in the year 1991 and then she moved to LA, California to start her pursuit for acting and she came back to Britain as her accent is of English which in turn provided with very minimal options for acting.

She started to study at Cambridge University where she graduated with a degree in anthropology. In between the semesters, she also continued acting and she started to get noticed and got more opportunities.

Thandie Newton the British actress was born to Nyasha Newton and Nick Newton who was a Lab Technician and also an artist. She has a younger brother named Jamie Newton.

Her name  Thandiwe is the name of a Nguni origin which means beloved. Her family moved to Penzance, Cornwall in the UK when she was just a three years old child and so her father ran an antique business for the family. As for her schooling, she has attended St Mary’s Roman Catholic Primary School.

Thandie Newton had remarked at a TED conference, From about the age of five, I was aware that I didn’t fit. I was the black, atheist kid in the all-white, Catholic school run by nuns. I was an anomaly and she also has taken the letter w from her name and made it as Thandie.

She got her dance studies at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts and at Downing College, Cambridge in the years from 1992 till 1995 and she got her graduation there in social anthropology.

Newton wed English filmmaker Ol Parker in 1998. The couple welcomed two daughters Ripley Parker in 2000 and Nico Parker in 2004, as well as a son Booker Jombe Parker in 2014. After separating in 2022, Newton began a new relationship with American musician Elijah Dias.
