She got her first recognition when she starred in the role of Zoey Johnson, the oldest daughter in the sitcom Black-ish from the year 2014.

She has also acted in its spinoff series Grown-ish from the year 2018. Yara Shahidi is the daughter of Afshin Shahidi a photographer, and Keri Salter Shahidi. Her mother is having a history of mixed black and Native Choctaw heritage and her father is an Iranian.

Her family moved to California for her father Afshin’s work when Yara was just 4 years old. She is the older sister of the child actor and model Sayeed Shahidi. They also have a younger brother Ehsan and her cousin is the rapper, Nas.

Her mother Keri once stated her daughter’s name Yara means Someone who is close to your heart in the Persian language and the name Shahidi is a common surname in Iran Muslim origin. As for her schooling, she got graduated from the Dwight Global Online School in the year of 2017 and In the year 2018, she started to go to college at Harvard University to major in Interdisciplinary Sociology and African American Studies.
