Early Life:

Darold D Brown Ferguson Jr. was born on October 20, 1988, in the renowned Harlem neighbourhood of “Hungry Ham” in New York City, US. Darold Ferguson, his father, managed a store that produced shirts and record-company logos, such as the ‘Bad Boys Records’ logo.

Ferg was a creative youngster who assisted his father in creating shirts and record designs. He dreamed of starting his own apparel and jewellery company while he was in his teens.

Ferg started his own firm when his father died of renal disease. He was still in art school at the time, but the company was a success. In 2005, he founded ‘Devoni Clothing,’ producing high-end accessories such as belts worn by celebrities such as Chris Brown and Diggy Simmons.

His focus had shifted to music by the time he was 20 years old. He was a perfectionist who poured his heart and soul into everything he did. As a result, he quickly established himself in the entertainment industry.

Career:

From his high school days, he was a close friend of rapper A$AP Rocky. They met and became members of the hip-hop group ‘A$AP Mob’ in 2010, where he got his stage name “A$AP Ferg.” Ferg initially designed costumes for the group before collaborating with Rocky to release hits like ‘Get High,’ ‘Ghetto Symphony,’ and ‘Kissin’ Pink,’ which made them popular among young people.

The two friends quickly discovered, however, that they were more successful as solo artists. ‘Work,’ his debut single, was released in August 2012 and was included in the ‘A$AP Mob’ mixtape ‘Lords Never Worry.’ The music video received over two million views in a short period of time and was named one of ‘Complex Magazine’s’50 Best Songs of 2012.’

In May 2013, a remix of the song featuring fellow rappers A$AP Rocky, Trinidad James, French Montana, and Schoolboy Q was released. In August 2013, he inked a deal with ‘RCA Records’ and ‘Polo Grounds,’ and released his first album, ‘Trap Lord,’ which reached at number nine on the ‘Billboard 200’ list and sold over 46,000 copies in the United States. The success of his first album inspired him to make music his full-time career.

His fame as a result of his first album garnered him the ‘Rookie of the Year’ award at the 2013 ‘BET Hip Hop Awards,’ after which he never looked back. He was a featured musician on Ariana Grande’s song “Hands on Me” from her album “My Everything,” which was released in August 2014. As a result, he rose to prominence in the music business.

He designed his own dance routines for the video of the tune ‘Dope Walk,’ which was to be included in his mixtape ‘Ferg Forever,’ in 2015. The film, which starred Kris Jenner, Alexander Wang, and Justin Bieber, quickly went popular on social media. The dancing moves were the most discussed topic among college students that year.

Ferg directed rapper Future’s video for ‘Thought It Was a Drought.’ In April 2016, he released his second studio album, ‘Always Strive and Prosper.’ The album’s debut single, ‘New Level,’ was certified “gold” by the RIAA in August of that year. This significantly increased his artistic reputation. The success of his second record gave him the courage to break out of his shell and abandon all inhibitions. He became a real youth idol and associated with his audience by making songs that reminded him of his Harlem days.

A$AP Ferg was recently featured in the ‘Lost Kings’ tune ‘Look At Us Now,’ with vocalist Ally Brooke. In 2016, he was a member of a 23-city tour.
