Ackquille Jean Pollard (born August 4, 1994) is an American rapper better known as Bobby Shmurda. Shmurda, along with Rowdy Rebel, is regarded as a pioneer of Brooklyn drill music. His single “Hot Nigga” reached at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2014. The popularity of the track led to Shmurda obtaining a contract with Epic Records. His first EP, Shmurda he Wrote, was released in November 2014.

In December 2014, New York City Police arrested Shmurda and accused him, along with many other members of GS9, with conspiracy to kill, weapons possession, and reckless endangerment. In 2016, he pled guilty and was sentenced to seven years in jail, which was reduced to five years after gaining credit for the two years he had previously spent awaiting trial. Shmurda was freed from Clinton Correctional Facility in February 2021, after serving more than six years in jail. His debut was favourably praised by the hip-hop scene.

Early Life:

Ackquille Pollard was born in the city of Miami, Florida. His father is Jamaican and his mother is African-American. Following his father’s arrest, his mother relocated to East Flatbush from Florida. While residing in Brooklyn, Pollard had run-ins with the police, including a fifteen-month imprisonment for a probation violation and being arrested on gun charges that were eventually dismissed. Pollard was the ringleader of a criminal business known as “GS9” that was responsible for killings and non-fatal shootings, as well as narcotics trafficking from Kings Highway to East Flatbush, according to his 2014 indictment.

The first song he remixed was Crime Mob’s “Knuck If You Buck,” but he did not gain popularity until 2014, when his song “Hot Nigga” was released.
