Brigitte Kingsley is a Canadian actress and producer. She was born on April 12, 1976, in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Her family relocated to Whitby, Ontario, when she was ten years old. Brigitte Kingsley began her acting career in high school at the age of fourteen, appearing in television commercials for Oxy, Foot Locker, Mcdonald’s, Head & Shoulders, and Radio Shack, to name a few. For four seasons as host Suki Diefenbaker, she was known as the “hostess with the Mostess.”

At York University, she majored in theatre and psychology. Brigitte Kingsley founded Defiant Empire Corporation with business partner Andrew Cymek shortly after graduating with honors from York University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Studies.

She made a number of short films, corporate videos, and commercials before releasing her first feature film, Dark Rising, in 2006, starring wrestling superstar Jay “Christian Cage” Reso.

The low-budget indie film was released by Universal Vivendi in 2007 and was nominated for six Canadian Comedy Awards in 2008, including Best Writing, Directing, Male Performance, and Best Female Performance, which Brigitte won for her role as the lead character “Summer Vale.”

It was later released in the United States and internationally by EOne and was subsequently expanded into a sequel Dark Rising 2: Summer Strikes Back! and the television series The Savage Tales of Summer Vale, both of which were released in 2011 on Super Channel and acquired by Cinemavault for international sales and MarVista for US sales.

Brigitte Kingsley became president of Black Walk in 2008, a production company best known for their clever comedic features such as the 2005 TIFF Favourite and Independent Spirit Award Winner Phil the Alien. Medium Raw: Night of the Wolf, an action-thriller starring John Rhys Davies (Lord of the Rings) and William B. Davies (X-Files), was released in 2010 by Anchor Bay Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

In 2011, she took on the duty of Decade Distribution in order to enhance her skills in the sales and distribution side of cinema and also produced her first Telefilm-sponsored feature film “Two Hands to Mouth” – an approved selection of the Madrid International Film Festival.

In 2012, she was nominated for another Canadian Comedy Award for her performance as Summer Vale in Dark Rising 2: Summer Strikes Back! and starred and co-executive produced the fourth Dark Rising project: Warrior of Worlds (also starring Colin Mochrie, Peter Outerbridge, and Scott Thompson) (also starring Colin Mochrie, Peter Outerbridge, and Scott Thompson).

In September 2012, Brigitte quit Black Walk to create her own production firm Good Soldier Films with partner Andrew Cymek. Their films include Night Cries, which won the best screenplay at the Blood in the Snow Film Festival, The Man in the Shadows, which played at Dances with Films and Cinefest, and Country Crush, which was acquired by SHOUT! Factory in the US and won Best Narrative Feature, Best of the Festival Film, and Audience Choice at the Desert Rocks Films and Music Festival in Hesperia, CA.

Brigitte Kingsley serves on the Board of Directors for Canadore College’s Television/Video Production and Digital Cinematography program and is the driving force behind the “Good Soldier” initiative, a charitable cause that benefits soldiers.

Early Life, Family, and Relationship

Brigitte Kingsley was raised in the neighboring village of Hanmer after being born in Sudbury, Ontario. At the age of ten, she relocated to Whitby, Ontario.

Her mother Diane was a teacher in the French Catholic school system until they both retired early and founded two Topper’s Pizza businesses in Whitby and Oshawa, Ontario.

Her father Denis worked in the timber insurance sector for more than 20 years. Natalie is her elder sister.

At the age of 14, she started appearing in television advertisements for brands including Oxy, Foot Locker, McDonald’s, Head & Shoulders, and Radio Shack.

She completed her OAC at Anderson Collegiate in Whitby after finishing grade 12 at the French Catholic School Saint-Charles Garnier in Whitby, Ontario. She received a BFA in Theatre Studies with honors and studied theatre and psychology at York University in Toronto.
