Tyler-Justin Anthony Sharpe was born on August 26, 2002, in New York City’s Queens neighbourhood to Jamaican parents. He grew up in Queens’ Springfield Gardens area before moving to Long Island’s Cedarhurst. Sharpe had dreams of playing in the NBA since he was a child, but at the age of 12, he decided to pursue a career in music instead. He went to Lawrence High School.

According to Lil Tecca, he began rapping with his friends on his Xbox mic at the age of nine. This was the time when he began to develop an interest in music and rapping. Initially, he had no intention of pursuing a career in music and preferred to pursue a career in the NBA.

During his middle school years, however, he began to lose interest in basketball and decided to focus on music instead. ‘Tectri,’ a track he made with a friend named Lil Gummybear, was released in early 2017. It was his first hit with listeners. Soon after, he released other songs such as ‘Callin,’ ‘My Time,’ and ‘Rags to Riches.’

He gained even more popularity after the release of his first single, ‘Ransom,’ on May 22, 2019.
