Latifah was born on March 18, 1970, in Newark, New Jersey. But she was raised on East Orange, New Jersey. Her father, Lancelot Amos Owens, was a police officer and her mother Rita Lamae, who was a teacher at Irvington High School. Her older brother Lancelot Jr. was killed in a motorcycle accident.

She attended Catholic School in Newark, and Essex Catholic Girl’s High School in Irvington. But she graduated from Irvington High School, where her mother was a teacher. During high school, she was in the high school basketball team.

After graduating from high school, she studied at Borough of Manhattan Community College. Latifah has a son named Rebel.  Her height is 5 feet 10 inches, weight is 91 kg, hair color is light brown, and eye color is dark brown. Her net worth is estimated to be $70 million.
