William Leonard Roberts II, better known as Rick Ross in the R&B and rap worlds, is a well-known American rap musician and record label owner. He has successfully released six studio albums to date and is the co-founder of the well-known Maybach Music Group, along with Wale, Meek Mill, and French Montana. Growing up in a poor region in north Miami, Ross was exposed to street music from an early age.

He dropped out of college to pursue his ambition of being a great rap musician, but he also became engaged in the drug trafficking business—the society in which he grew up. Ross worked as a correctional officer for a few years before obtaining his first record contract, which he has been mocked for in the media due to his background of drug dealing.

Early Life

Ross was born in Mississippi and raised in the impoverished neighbourhoods north of Miami. Ross has been a fan of street music since he was a child, listening to musicians such as Notorious B.I.G., Luther Campbell, and others. He was admitted to Georgia’s Albany State University on a football scholarship, but after a year, he lost interest in academics and began focusing on creating rap songs while selling narcotics. During the early 1990s, he served as a correctional officer in Florida.

Ross originally had the option to sign with Suave House Records, but he finally signed with Slip-n-Slide Records. He was able to tour with Trick Daddy and appear on their records as a result of this. Ross’ initial hit single ‘Hustin’,’ which had the fascinatingly repeating lyric ‘Everyday I’m Hustling’ throughout the song, became a big success and was certified gold, and Ross established himself as the hottest new rap artist on the scene. The following year, he released his fourth studio album, ‘Teflon Don,’ which included big songs like as ‘Super High,’ ‘Live Fast, Die Young,’ and collaborations with artists such as Ne-Yo, Kanye West, and others. It reached at number two on the charts. In the same year, he cooperated on an EP with Diddy, with whom he inked a management agreement via his enterprise Ciroc Entertainment. ‘Another One,’ a single from the EP, was released.

Ross released ‘God Forgives, I Don’t’ in 2012, with hits like ‘You the Boss’ and ‘I Love My Bitches.’ It was his highest-charting album, debuting at No. 2 on the UK R&B Album Chart and No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
