Early Life

Lindsay Ell was born in Calgary, Alberta. Lindsay began playing the piano at the age of six, until she found her father’s collection of guitars spread about the home and switched at the age of eight; “I fell in love with the guitar,” she recalls. “It’s an important part of who I am.” Lindsay fell in love with the blues at the age of ten and began creating songs. Ell graduated a year early from Bishop Carroll High School as valedictorian of her class. In addition to continuing her singing career, she went on to study business at the University of Calgary and music at the Berklee College of Music.

Career

Ell was found by Randy Bachman when she was just 15 years old. Bachman called her “the most accomplished and multi-faceted performer I’ve seen in recent years.” Consider This was co-written and produced by Bachman. It was recorded at Bachman’s Saltspring Island studio, and Ell co-wrote the majority of the 11 tracks. Bachman’s record company Ranbach Music published the album in 2006, and it was distributed by Fontana North. In 2008, Ell went on tour with blues musician Buddy Guy. In contrast to her debut, she shifted to a more acoustic style in her 2009 album, Alone.

Her first trip to Nashville for songwriting brought her full circle back to her country roots. She spent many years travelling back and forth from Calgary to Nashville to engage in songwriting sessions while also doing as many live gigs as she could to polish her talent. She relocated to Nashville permanently at the age of 21 and signed with the US-based record company Stoney Creek Records.

Her first official single, “Trippin’ on Us,” premiered in December 2013 as the most added song for country music radio in both Canada and the United States, with over 50 first-week additions. Since then, Ell has been described as “a real triple threat” by Guitar World, “a star in the making” by Taste of Country, and “a distinct figure in the current country recording camp” by Country Weekly.

Lindsay is a guitarist inspired by artists like as John Mayer, Keith Urban, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Tommy Emmanuel, Chet Atkins, Buddy Guy, Randy Bachman, Eric Clapton, and Jimi Hendrix. She usually uses a custom Les Paul Goddess and a Martin acoustic guitar. She is a Martin Guitar official artist.

Lindsay made her Grand Ole Opry debut on April 15, 2014, and has since been on the programme multiple times. Lindsay published her first EP, Worth the Wait, on March 24, 2017, which included six tracks, one of which was a version of John Mayer’s “Stop This Train.” “Worth the Wait demonstrates Ell’s brilliance as a guitarist, singer, and composer in all capacities,” commented Sounds Like Nashville in a review of the record.

Lindsay performed the Canadian National Anthem during the 2018 NHL All-Star Game on January 28, 2018. She played at the C2C: Country to Country event in the United Kingdom in March 2018. Lindsay travelled to Nashville on July 29, 2020, at the request of her label, to record a remix as a guest artist on Tucker Beathard’s freshly released track “Faithful.” The song was the first promotional single released after the announcement of Beathard’s next album named KING, however the version featuring her was omitted off the album and could only be accessed through YouTube.

Ell’s fifth studio album, Heart Theory, was released on August 14, 2020, and included the songs “I Don’t Love You,” “Want Me Back,” and “Good on You.” Ell was revealed as the host of the second season of Canada’s Got Talent, which will premiere in 2022, in October 2021. She co-hosted the 2021 Canadian Country Music Awards with Priyanka.
