She grew up in southeast London. Lucy also has a dual-citizenship of the UK and the US. She had realised that she wanted to act when she was just ten years old and after the fact that a drama teacher taught her by saying, acting is not just playing pretend; it is understanding the human mind and also why people function as they function.

Lucy Boynton made her professional debut at the early age of twelve as Beatrix Potter in the movie Miss Potter in the year 2006 which was a biographical film. She was recommended to take an audition by a casting director when she was in drama class.

As she had a skill for it she got additional scenes written in particular for her character after a test screening which was having a positive response for her role. She also wore corsets and padded clothing to be in the character of Potter as a teen during her part in the movie.
