Michael Garrett Shanks is a Canadian actor, writer, and director. He is well-known for his role as Daniel Jackson in the military science fiction television series Stargate SG-1.

Shanks was born on December 15, 1970, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Though he was born in Vancouver, he grew up in Kamloops, British Columbia. He attended the University of British Columbia. He studied in the BFA Acting Program from 1990 to 1994. During his acting program, he appeared in several stage productions. He spent two years at the Stratford Festival in Ontario.

In 2003, he married Lexa Doig, a Canadian actress. He has three children – Mia Tabitha Shanks, Samuel David Shanks, and Tatiana Shanks. Her height is 6 feet 1 inch, his weight is 77 kg, hair color is black, and eye color is blue. His net worth is estimated to be $2 million.

He started his acting career with several stage productions while he was studying acting. Some of the plays he was cast in were Love’s Labour’s Lost, Love of the Nightingale, Translations, Loot, Wait Until Dark, Sure Thing, Hopscotch, and The Lion in Winter. His debut on television was Highlander: The Series in 1993.

From 1997 to 2007, he was cast in a military science fiction adventure television series Stargate SG-1. He played the main role of Daniel Jackson, Machello, and the voice of Thor. Some of his other television series are The Outer Limits, Andromeda, Stargate Atlantis, 24, Eureka, Burn Notice, Sanctuary, Tower Prep, Smallville, Supernatural, Flashpoint, Saving Hope, The Detectives, Unspeakable, Virgin River, Altered Carbon, Project Blue Book, and The Good Doctor.

Shanks’s debut on the big screen was with the movie Suspicious River.
