Acting Career

McLaughlin started his acting career on the Broadway stage. His first stage performance was The Lion King as Young Simba at the Minskoff Theatre from 2012 to 2014. His other theatre performance was The Painted Rocks at Revolver Creek as Bookie at the Pershing Square Signature Centre in 2015.

He first started his film career in the short film Noah Dreams of Origami Fortunes as Noah in 2012. He has appeared in other movies like High Flying Bird, and Concrete Cowboy. In television series, he first appeared in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Unforgettable, Forever, What Would You Do?, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Shades of Blue, Blue Bloods, and Lip Sync Battle.

As a voice-over actor, he has voiced for Young Gary in Final Space, Ghost in Summer Camp Island, Trevor Johnson in Ultra City Smiths, and Mo-Slo in The Boys Presents: Diabolical. In 2017, he played the role of Ricky Bell (age 10 to 15) in the series The New Edition Story.

McLaughlin was born on October 13, 2001, in Carmel, New York, United States. He attended Kent Primary School and George Fischer Middle School. McLaughlin studied dance at Happy Feet Dance School, attended Seven Star School of Performing Arts in Brewster and also studied at The Harlem School of the Arts.

Awards

McLaughlin won the Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2017. In 2018, he won the NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Performance by a Youth (Series, Special, Television Movie or Limited Series). Both the awards were for his role in the Netflix series Stranger Things.

McLaughlin is vocal about body image, self-esteem, and positivity. He has led social media campaigns like #EmbraceYourFace, and #BeYourBiggestFan. His upcoming movie Shooting Stars is currently in filming. He plays the role of Dru Joyce III, the film will be released in 2023.
