As an Actor

Duke started his acting career as a stage artist. He worked with theater productions like Portland Stage Company and Yale Repertory Theatre. In 2012, he returned to his native Tobago to appear in the theater production of An Echo in the Bone, which was directed by his fellow Yale Alumna Timmia Hearn Feldman.

In 2014, he was cast in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, in which he played the role of Cedric Jones in the episode Gridiron Soldier. He has also appeared in other series like The Messengers, Major Crimes, and Modern Family. He was cast in the CBS drama series Person of Interest in which he played the role of Dominic Besson. In the series, he is also called Mini, the leader of the Brotherhood drug gang.

In 2018, Duke was cast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Black Panther. He played the role of M’Baku, a powerful, ruthless warrior and leader of Wakanda’s mountain tribe (Jabari), who protest T’Challa being the new king. The tribe worships the gorilla gods and M’Baku wears elements of fur on his arms and legs and a chest plate that hints at the gorilla. M’Baku has not been referred to in the comic alter ego ‘Man-Ape’.

For his role, he spoke a version of the Nigerian Igbo language rather than the Xhosa language spoken by other Wakandans. Duke has appeared in other films like Us, Nine Days, and Spenser Confidential. He also appeared in the other Marvel movies Avengers: Endgame and the upcoming Marvel movie, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is currently in post-production. Duke received a nomination for Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and MTV Movie Award for Best Fight.

In 2004, he graduated from Brighton High School In Rochester, New York. After high school, he graduated from the University at Buffalo with a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Theatre. In 2013, he graduated from the Yale School of Drama where he received a degree in Master of Fine Arts in acting.
